Inter-Science of Learning Centers (iSLC) conference

By Massimiliano Versace | May 23, 2010

The Center of Excellence for Learning In Education, Science & Technology (CELEST), a NSF-funded center comprised of Boston University, Brandeis University, Harvard University & Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is hosting the third annual inter-Science of Learning Centers (iSLC) Student and Postdoctoral Conference.

iSLC is a meeting of junior researchers from the NSF-funded Science of Learning Centers (SLCs). iSLC 2010 immediately follows CELEST’s annual International Conference on Cognitive and Neural Systems (ICCNS).

During the 3-day iSLC conference, participants from each Center and from diverse academic fields will be able to address general and specific issues with one another and share strategies for implementation and application of their research. Thus the plenary theme for this year's conference is Learning in Action: Applications and Implementation. The purpose of the conference is to foster research collaborations between SLCs and to build a network of junior researchers in the science of learning.

The conference, aside from having a core of neurdons (from all over the world, in fact...) all coming together in Boston this year, is usually a very lively environment to start collaborations.

About Massimiliano Versace

Massimiliano Versace is the director of the Boston University Neuromorphics Lab. The lab focuses on the study of biological intelligence with the goal of embedding the derived fundamental principles in bio-inspired computers and robots. His research interests are focused on neural networks – in particular applied to spiking-based neural models of learning and memory in the cerebral cortex. With a few colleagues, he founded Neurala LLC in 2006 to commercialize brain-based software. For more info, visit his website
